Movie Review: The Chronicle (2012)

The Chronicle is a science-fictional movie released in 2012. The movie was directed by Jay Alaimo, Josh Trank, and the script was written by the help of Max Landis. It has 84 minutes runtime. Focusing on the daily life of three grown-ups named Andrew (Dane DeHaan), Matt (Alex Russell), and Steve (Michael B. Jordan). It takes the found-footage point of views, a new trend way of filming nowadays. This movie takes genre on drama, horror, mystery, sci-fi, and fantasy.

The story  starts with Andrew, an ordinary student from a Seattle high school. Being bumped into several problems in his teenage days including his dying mother, abusive father, the bullies, and the fact that no one likes him, has driven him mad and made him bought a camera with his high school tuition money. He has a cousin named Matt, the only guy who wants to hang out with him for almost all day. Later they meet Steve, one of the Student Council candidates, the most popular person in the high school. They eventually made friends with each other after going through an unexplained event in the middle of a forest.

This movie provides some crude humors, violence, sexual content and teen drinking scenes which is why the movie is rated as PG-13. So, It'll be not suitable for kids. The development of the story itself can be considered as tricky, as people will feel like watching a documentary video, and probably got bored if they didn't pay much attention into the plot lines.

However, I love how realistic the point of view when filming. It just like we face it within ourselves and slowly understand about the situation. We also need to realize that even if we have such powers, we should be wise when using it.

In the end, from the scale 1 until 10 I would like to give this movie a 8 points. This is a good movie for those who want to kill their time and curious about any extraterrestrial things around us.
